Edward Waller
Sculptor and architectural mason for Able Memorials Ltd.
Edward Waller is the principle architectural mason and co-founder of the highly successful firm Able Memorials Ltd. Established in 2001 Able Memorials are rapidly developing and have recently expanded their facilities.
Edward trained for three years at York College achieving a distinction in masonry. He also received the college award for outstanding craftsmanship in his second year.
His work ranges from hand carved lettering and sculpture to fireplaces and the conservation and restoration of historic buildings and structures.
All masonry work at Able Memorials is crafted using an air tool, hand mallet and chisel. Local stone is used where possible although materials have been sourced form as far a field as china.
As well as being able to supply new masonry a conservation and restoration service is offered repairing existing masonry.

The original caps were stolen. New ones were commissioned but there were no records of how the originals looked, other than a 1980's wedding photo with the bride and groom stood in the gates.

Commissioned to produce Black Slate "forks" and circle for the parish mosaic. Also the limestone shield and sign with hand engraved lettering.

The Institute was converted in 2002. The glass was removed and all masonry inspected. Any damaged pieces were replaced and any pieces which had moved were "dressed" in and re-pointed if required.
Trefoil moulding - the existing piece had fallen away and been lost, a new piece was cut in and "dressed" to match.
Damaged cill - a new piece was "dressed" in and cut to match.

New pillars and caps were made after the conversion of the Old Institute in 2002. They are made from Dunhouse Blue Sandstone.

The original had been vandalised so a new one was commissioned and fitted using Dunhouse Buff Sandstone.
The original carving was used as a reference.

The caps on the bridge had been broken or pushed into the river, the broken ones were replaced.

Repairs to the south east liturgical window involved taking out stained glass and decayed masonry. Replacing with new stone.
Re-pointing and "dressing" in any masonry which had moved. Due to movement in the south east wall.
